Magic, Unlocked

I don’t often get to do public performances because I’m usually booked at private events. But when I have a public show, I make sure that it’s something I want to go to. Last night, I performed at Magic, Unlocked at Keys and Heels in NYC.

Before I get into how the show went, I must tell you about this space! Speakeasies are trending in NYC, and this is one of the newer spots to open up. I nearly missed the entrance because of how unassuming the place looked. On the outside, it seems like a locksmith and shoe repair shop. See below:

You can understand why!

You open another series of doors and are in the beautiful, intimate bar that seats about 30-50 people. The music is playing, and the atmosphere is comforting. I was blown away and impressed by the level of detail (and drinks).

In these Speakeasy type shows, you tend to perform alongside other magicians. Last night, I joined host Mark Clearview and RJ the Magician. We had two shows to perform, with the first one starting at 7:30 pm and the second one at 9:30 pm. The room was divided into three sections, and each section would get to see three performers. I loved this because I got to perform some close-up and formal, parlor-style magic. At the end of the evening, Mark closed out the night with mind reading and an incredibly dangerous stunt of swallowing razor blades and threading them on a piece of… thread.

I have an absolute blast at these shows, and I do when I can spread the word about them. I hope to do this show again in the future and see YOU there too!
